Canadian Pacific #2816
"The Empress"

     From August 22, 2007 to September 2, 2007 the Midwest had the pleasure of hosting a visitor from the north.  The Canadian Pacific #2816 4-6-4 Hudson  "The Empress"  visited Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL.  On August 29th the #2816 traveled from Minneapolis, MN to Milwaukee, WI.  Then over Labor Day weekend September 1,2 & 3 the #2816 pulled steam powered excursions from Franklin Park, IL to Sturtevant, WI and return each day.  Then on September 4, 2007 the #2816 traveled from Chicago, IL back to La Crosse and eventually back to the Twin Cities.  The weather for these trips was AWESOME.  So here are some photos from those trips.

At Bensenville Yard in Chicago, IL a CP diesel and METRA train pass #2816 while being serviced.  Also a new emblem is proudly displayed on the cab.

Tuesday September 4, 2007  Chicago, IL to La Crosse, WI 

#2816 westbound at Grand Ave in Milwaukee, WI with Miller Park in the background. 
From Highway 146 overpass west of Columbus, WI Amtrak #8 eastbound arrives and minutes later #2816 westbound steams past. 

Peeking out of the west portal of the tunnel at Tunnel City, WI.  The only active RR tunnel in the state. 

In La Crosse, WI the #2816 is at the "new" coaling tower. A tank truck pumps diesel fuel into the tender.   The #2816 passes the depot at La Crosse as it heads for the yard and the night.
