Coming Home of the ORANGE
On Thursday September 15, 2005 over 100 hundred Allis-Chalmers Tractors made there way home to West Allis, WI.
In Conjunction with "Fall Harvest Days" put on by the Southeast Wisconsin Antique Power and Collectibles Society. This years featured tractor was Allis-Chalmers. So a parade was organized to let those A-C's "Come Home"
The parade went from Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, WI to down 76th Street to Washington Street. East on Washington and then north 1/2 block to what was the Main Entrance to the Allis-Chalmers plant. Unfortunately the tractor erecting buildings have been torn down. But the tractors were able to parade through what is left of the old plant and even make there way through one of the erecting buildings that was Allis-Chalmers.
Below are some photos of some the tractors that made it back home and were part of this parade.
These first two were taken at State Fair Park at the staging area. Lines and Lines of Allis-Chalmers tractors.

Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate, but here are some of the first tractors making there way eastbound on Washington St inside what would have been the Allis-Chalmers plant. Behind the tractors are some of the remaining erection buildings.
Standing next to me and my Dad was a gentleman holding up this photo of what was the main entrance to AC and the tractor plant. The photo was probably from the late 60's
As the sunset the parade continued
This gentleman and about 15 others drove their tractors from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Milwaukee. They made there way across Lake Michigan on the SS Badger Carferry. 17 tractors made the trip across the lake. They averaged about 100 miles a day on their AC tractors.
All of the photos below are shots of various makes and models of Allis-Chalmers tractors as they make there way through one of the erection buildings that was used for Steam Turbines.
