Modern Trains Menu Page

This page will serve as the main menu page for the Modern Train Section of Steam Trains and Tractors.  Unfortunately many more modern trains run today than special Steam Excursions.  In the following pages will be shots of Modern day or sometimes somewhat classic diesel locomotives in action or waiting for action. 

Check out the busy Union Pacific Triple-Track Mainline between Gibbon Jct, Nebraska and North Platte, Nebraska.  This line sees 100-120 trains in a 24 hours period.  The best part is that almost the entire line is paralleled by State Highway 30.  So photographing trains on this busy stretch of track is almost too easy.  The weather was perfect and there were alot of trains.

Amtrak #8 Empire Builder Detours onto the Canadian National
Highlights
- Due to Bridge Closure Amtrak #8 detours onto CN
- Amtrak Backs from CP tracks to CN
- #8 has to wait for N/B CN Intermodal
- All this happens during a light snowfall

Busy Day on Union Pacific Mainline - August 2006   NEW  09-09-2006
 I spent 5 hours on the Union Pacific mainline about 40 miles west of Chicago, IL.  In those 5 hours I saw 18 trains of all shapes and sizes.  Check out the Photos

Highlights
- UP2002/UP3300/UP2001 - 2002 Olympic Torch Train units and United Way unit ran together
- 4 Brand New UP Locomotives head west on their first revenue run
- 3 Different UP/CNW Patch Units (SD40-2, Dash-8 and Dash-9)
- MKT and Rock Island Heritage Units UP 1998/UP 1992 run as a pair westbound on September 4, 2006

8 Hours at Rochelle Railfan Park - June 16, 2007  - NEW 06-28-2007
- Saw 30 trains in those 8 hours
- New BNSF Gevo's along with SD40-2's
- Couple of Warbonnets looking a bit forlorn
- Nice weather
